How and when to apply!

OK - we all want to follow up every avenue to get to where we want to go, but you do need to be 'sensible' about the types of opportunities you apply for and how you go about it! Here we provide some basic guidelines on what to do and what NOT to do!!

Most of the listings we feature will provide specific contact information for the person or company responsible for castings and auditions. We may provide the company name and address so that applications can be submitted by post. We may provide a telephone number.

A good thing to remember is this - the information we provide is intended to represent the way in which the casting agent (or whoever) wishes to be approached. If there is just a postal address that's because they want to be contacted by post - in many situations it wouldn't be difficult to locate a telephone number for them, and there may be guys and girls that live nearby who think "oh, they're just around the corner ... I'll go visit"!.  This isn't a good idea as these people are generally very busy and they ask for written submissions for a reason!  By hassling them you may well alienate them and ruin any chance you may have of getting an audition.

If you fancy yourself as a bit of a detective you may try and 'hunt down' details of a producer or director of a big movie, figuring that writing to them with your details may be a good 'back door' to getting an audition. Don't waste your time - the chances are your letter wouldn't get anywhere near the 'big guys' - it may get passed onto the Casting Director or Agent but if that happens you could well have ruined your chances anyway as they'd probably be a bit '******' that you tried to go behind their backs!
