Guidance Notes for Applications

We do take care to avoid listing bogus or misleading opportunities on this web site but it is impossible for us to verify the authenticity of every single listing. With this in mind, we have produced some guidelines that you should always bear in mind when applying for auditions.

FEES
With the exception of talent competitions you should never expect to pay a fee for an audition; if you are asked to pay a fee for an audition please let us know and we will ensure that the listing is either removed or modified to make it clear that an audition fee is requested.

Don't pay money for anything 'up front' unless you weigh up the risks involved - this can apply with agencies that may charge a fee to include you in their 'book', or where you may be asked for money to produce a portfolio. We cannot give you advice on whether you 'should' or 'should not' pay money up front to a particular company, you must make your own decision based upon your own assessment of any potential risk.

If you do pay to sign up with an agency you must remember that work is never guaranteed. It's a good idea to ask an agency how many clients they have as this would be a reasonable indication of how much work they are liable to pull in.

Most agencies do not charge an up front fee but will deduct it from your initial earnings.

PHOTOS, CDs, TAPES, ETC
Don't expect your photos, CDs, tapes, etc to be returned to you. Sometimes you'll get them back, more often than not you won't. You need to look at these things as 'tools of your trade'; you will be expected to provide them and without them you stand little chance of achieving success.

ATTENDING AUDITIONS
Be cautious about attending an audition or meeting at a non-business address on your own; if necessary take a friend or at least tell someone precisely where you are going. You should also see our tip 'Surviving Auditions'
