How much can I earn?
Rates of pay can vary enormously depending on the type of work. You could earn as little as £65 to £75 for a long day's work, up to hundreds perhaps even thousands if the right job came along! For film and TV work there are several agreements that have been established by the BBC, ITV and Equity. The best place to view the latest agreements in on Equity's web site - go to this link and you'll find various links for rates of pay and agreements. Rates across the industry vary enormously with theatre work probably amongst the lowest. Working on a cruise ship can be rewarding because even though the pay may not be that high, you have free lodging and, on the right ship, eat well and see places others only dream of! TV commercials can be pretty lucrative, especially if you get 'residuals' from it (these are royalty payments made to you every time the ad is shown). It's more commonplace now for a 'buy out' fee - this means that you get a one-off fee for the job, and no residuals. Modelling assignments can also be good money - again, it's possible to get 'residuals' or you may also get 'billboard' fees - this is where a job is not only published in the press but also on hoardings, bus stops, etc. The potential to earn £500 to £1000 or more for a day's work is perfectly feasible. |
