Faking It!

Fake tan of course ... what did you think I meant!? Fake tans can be very convincing, but you need to make sure that you use the right product and, most importantly,  make sure you apply it properly.

To achieve the best results with a fake tan it's really important that you exfoliate first. Exfoliating gets rid of dead surface skin which, because it's dry, can absorb more of the self-tanning product than other areas of the skin and thus cause uneven results. There are a lot of exfoliating products around - you just need to find one that suits your skin and your budget.

Another good tip is to moisturise the skin before applying the tanning product as this can help the fake tan glide on easily and doesn't go patchy; but if you're going to do this you need to use a moisturiser that doesn't contain oil.  Check the labels of moisturisers or ask a sales assistant for advice.

There are a multitude of self-tanning products on the market, ranging from lotions, sprays and wipes through to mousses and even 'dry mist'. New to the market is "Soltan Self-Tan Peel Off Face Mask" - this product claims to exfoliate, moisturise and tan all in one go!! Clever huh?!

Important :

- Remember to wash your hands immediately after applying any self-tanning product ... brown palms are a dead giveaway!

- Bear in mind that most self-tanning products last for only three to five days, so you will need to be sure to 'top up your tan' as soon as it starts to fade

- If you're attending an important audition or casting and haven't used a fake tan before I highly recommend you have a 'dry run' at least one week before the audition, that way there's time for any mistakes to fade!!
