Dr. Jagjit Singh Chohan was a former dentist turned politician from Punjab who served as an MLA and Speaker of the House.
He was known most for becoming the self proclaimed leader of the Khalistan Movement and for trying to establish an independent Khalistan. A strong headed and often aggressive personality he did not mince words and was known as a powerful Sikh leader. He often made passionate speeches against the Indian government and had a
charismatic public persona.
He was opposed to Jaswant’s peaceful movement. And when Jaswant publicly disagreed with his tactics, Mr. Chohan also spoke against him. However, even though he did not see eye to eye with Jaswant he spoke against Jaswant’s abduction and publicly spoke against the injustice done to Jaswant.
